The course of Hong Kong Popular Culture aims to broaden students’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Hong Kong popular culture in its broader social and historical contexts. The course is delivered through lectures, student inquiry and peer teaching. After the lecturer’s introduction, one hour is scheduled for independent inquiry followed by peer teaching in which students can discuss what they have found out. There is a longer independent inquiry/peer teaching project for the course assessment.
Peer teaching is different from presentation in one very important way. The objective is not just to display what students know, but to teach something about what they know to others. Through peer teaching everybody contributes to the knowledge that students gain as a group.
